Toufan Hosseiny

A single bloom, hand-stitched in blush and rose, opens across gingham and raw linen — the surface of Toufan Hosseiny's quilts is all softness. Her series When I met you I saw myself as another, after Siri Hustvedt, is dyed with everyday food scraps: peelings and rinds turned into powdery tones. But elsewhere in the same works, faces emerge with hollowed eyes and mouths, forms recalling Munch's scream. As the natural dyes fade with time, so does the image: a slow dilution of identity into the care of another.
